about
Mumble Tide - a Bristol duo-come-couple who met through Gumtree - have unveiled their new single ‘Breakfast’.
It all began with Gina Leonard’s Gumtree advert for a bassist to which Ryan Rogers responded; “The boyfriend part was a bonus”. Together they make music that represents the freedom they feel around each other. As displayed on the recently acclaimed single ‘Sucker’, nothing is too corny, cutesy, or petulant in the world of Mumble Tide. Aside from the mandatory approval required from their mascot Furbs the Furby, Mumble Tide is a judgement free zone.
Whilst ‘Breakfast’ does open with the sound of squabbling swans, the chaos of ‘Sucker’ is reigned in a little here though the lyrics are no less barbed - “everyone’s an arsehole” sings Leonard in the opening line - her sugar sweet vocals making for the perfect deception. Verging into dream pop, the chorus blows in like a sweep of sea air swallowing up your worries and directing you to the sun-soaked scene ahead.
“We’ve experienced a lot of disharmony in the past few years and at times, I've been pretty upset by how people have treated each other. I don't deal well with conflict and this song is about accepting that you aren't always going to see eye to eye with people and that it's ok to be on different pages sometimes, like it doesn't make you a bad person.”
Mumble Tide’s taste for world building doesn’t end with their evocative soundscapes, indeed the duo produce their own songs, design their own artwork and create their own videos. ‘Breakfast’ makes for a captivating entry point.
